Mitigating Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Webinar on Health Communication and Media Research
The use of new media (accessed through online sources, social media, digital media, the internet, virtual reality, and augmented reality) compared to traditional media (accessed through traditional television programs, films, magazines, books that do not contain digital inter-connectivity) revolutionized the consumption of media use at听 present time.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it shows that majority of Filipinos extract and share information from different media platforms, usually social media. But not all of these information are accurate. They are just adding to the agony and confusion of the general public.
In furthering our听 public knowledge on COVID-19, Dr. John Robert Bautista, a licensed nurse and an alumnus from the St. Luke鈥檚 College of Nursing of Trinity University of Asia will talk on 鈥淢itigating Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Webinar on Health Communication and Media Research鈥 on 22 April, Wednesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Philippine time. The webinar will be facilitated by the Philippine Association for Communication and Media Research, Inc.听听 This event is open to public.
To participate, log in to ZOOM. Trinity University of Asia community who will participate in the webinar is advice to make sure they have an updated version of Zoom. The use of mobile devices is more secure. Kindly check privacy settings and configure it properly. Most importantly, avoid sharing confidential information.
The rise on the importance of accurate information in science and health communication is a call from the threat of new media misuse by some people around the globe.听 In 2016, the Media and Communication Department of Trinity University of Asia conducted a National Conference on Health Communication focusing on HIV/AIDS () as the number of young adults infected continuously increasing. Two years later, the Commission on Higher Education released a memorandum for all Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines to intensify HIV/AIDS Awareness to flatten the curve ().
The Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Bachelor of Arts in Communication programs of the Media and Communication Department offer the subject Health and Science Communication (MC_116) that help the students understand the importance of communicating science and technology issues and hone their potentials in public health awareness through the use of media and communication.
